Castle Capers 2020

The District Executive has ratified the appointment of Jay Auckland as Director of Castle Capers 2020, of Steve Broadhurst as the show’s Chairman and of Gavin Eardley as the show’s Treasurer and Business Manager. We are now tasked with the job of putting the various show teams, necessary for a successful activity, together.

While it is essential that the show builds on the expertise of the past, it is equally essential it gives EVERYBODY in the District the opportunity to volunteer their services. It is impossible to know what amazing skills, past experiences or what willingness to learn is “out there” that would benefit Castle Capers – So, all we can do is ask!! The show needs to fill all manner of roles – from producers to ushers; on stage, front of house and back stage.

If you would like to be a part of Castle Capers 2020 – part of the production, management, business teams especially – LET US KNOW.

If you have a specific skill, experience or contact that you think might be useful to the show – LET US KNOW.

If you would like to “just help” and don’t quite know how you could be of use – LET US KNOW.

Even if you’ve been a part of the team for ages – let us know you still want to be part of the 2020 team.

After a really successful show in 2018 (in terms of being a successful Scout activity, a thoroughly entertaining evening, being financially sound and excellent public relations for Newcastle Scouting) we all look forward to an even more successful show in 2020 ……. and the planning has already started.

Please reply, with a note of how you feel you might want to help, by visiting our contact page by January 19th.

Castle Capers 2018 – Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

Castle Capers is back! The Newcastle-under-Lyme Scout Gang Show returns to the Mitchell Arts Centre this Easter, with a show full of singing, dancing and sketches.

“There really is something for everyone” says Producer Jay Auckland “we’ve got songs from musicals such as Grease and Rock of Ages, and we’ll be performing hits from the likes of Keane, Elbow, and Madonna. There’s also a special tribute to those who fought in World War One.”

Castle Capers has been running every two years since 1974, but this is the first time that the Scouts themselves have been part of the production team.

Youth Producer Sam Heelis says “it’s been a really fantastic experience. We’ve written our own sketches, and the suggestions we’ve made have helped to shape the show. Scouting is all about young people so it’s great that we’re taking a leading role both on and off the stage.”

Rehearsals for the show which runs from 3rd-7th April have been taking place twice a week since the beginning of January. Amongst those who’ve watched it come together is Newcastle’s District Commissioner Vera Bloor.

“For me Castle Capers is what Scouting is all about: young people and leaders working together to put on a brilliant show. I’ve been so impressed by how talented everyone is, and the hard work which they’ve been putting in. I really would encourage you to come and see it because I guarantee you’ll have a great time”.

You can buy tickets online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/castlecapers, direct from the theatre or on the door during the week of show.

If you’d like more information, to arrange an interview with the team, or attend a rehearsal then please contact us.

A recording of some of the songs from the show can also be made available for radio stations.
